netboot diskless option ghosted

I've made a netboot image which works with shadow files on the client (I want them on the server). A netinstall image (which requires server shadow files) just shuts the client down.

The "diskless" checkbox In Server Admin is ghosted. How can I fix this?

The NetBootClients0 share exists with default permissions. My server only has a couple of gig of space available, but I don't think this would be the reason, would it? - shadow files start small.

Do I have to build a new image using Network Image Utility FIRST, before I can use a .dmg that I made myself?
