While they may not seem as "snappy" as in OS 9, these machines aren't bad for Panther. In fact, Panther is faster than any previous version of Mac OS X, and it's especially evident on older machines. But the key is RAM: if these machines have something like 192MB RAM or less, they'll feel extremely slow. But if they have 384, or preferably 512 or more, and they are very usable. Try it out for yourself, and see how you like it.
