Re: How can I create a shadow file upon log in?

Hi Lou,
If these run OSX, and each student has her own account: maybe the unix "last" command would do it (in Terminal, type "last | head -20" at the prompt (without the "")
Last shows all recent logins and dates, reading from a file called /var/log/wtmp

We have about 2,000 iBooks. These are not assigned to any one student, so a sutdent can get a different one each day. They also do not have fixed IPs, so they can get reassigned each day too.

We have had some vandalism and need to know who the last student was who used that particular iBook.

Is there a log on hook or some script, that could create a hidden file, so that when a student logs in, it records just the user name?

Then I could go to that laptop and open up the hidden file and find out who the last user on that computer was.

Thank you.
