How can I create a shadow file upon log in?

Do you have some sort of check in/out system (the sort of thing of blockbuster use for lending videos) that could do this?

We have about 2,000 iBooks. These are not assigned to any one student, so a sutdent can get a different one each day. They also do not have fixed IPs, so they can get reassigned each day too.

We have had some vandalism and need to know who the last student was who used that particular iBook.

Is there a log on hook or some script, that could create a hidden file, so that when a student logs in, it records just the user name?

Then I could go to that laptop and open up the hidden file and find out who the last user on that computer was.

Thank you.
