iMovie problems

Hi,

We have a visual communications course that has been using iMovie 3.0.3
running on OS X.2.8. We have been hearing of students losing their iMovie
project files after hours of work. In the most recent example, the student
had her project open and simply minimized the iMovie project. When she
clicked to maximize the project, all of her edits and work were gone. The
project file disappeared. She was using an external FW HD for this project
and had worked on other iMovie projects without incident. She had saved
this project regularly prior to its disappearance. Unfortunately she did
not back up her project file. The media folder had around 4GB of data and
consisted of about 100 clips. It is still there but as I stated previously
there was no project file or QuickTime file. The project, when it existed,
was less than 10 minutes in length. Any ideas? Thanks.
