RE: Automount Sharepoints WITHOUT MAC SERVER

It might be possible to try using the OS 9 Startup Items folder. Place an alias of the network volume in there, restart and see what happens. When asked for the password, you can save the password and preferences by clicking the Options button in the dialog. This should save the name and password for accessing the volume.

my info:
Mac PowerPC G4 Quicksilver machines
running Mac OSX Panther 10.3.3/Classic OS9
**WE ARE NOT USING APPLE OS X SERVER**

well, i am trying to get my lab in order implementing
a few new things this quarter. i am having all users
now logging in against the domain via LDAP
authentication. i am also running the LoginHook to
maintain the set desktop settings everytime a person
logs out/in. and, i am also maintaining common dock
settings for all users who login. so far, everything
is working great (thanks to this site ).

now, in addition to what i already have going i would
like to have one of our database servers automounting
for each person who logs in. not only that, but i
would like this to happen when classic mode starts as
well. i would like a situation where the login window
is bypassed and the drive is automatically mapped
without having to log into it with a guest acct. and,
i would like all of this to function without having to
compromise any of my previous settings.

i have tried working within /mounts in NETINFO
MANAGER, but am unsuccessful.

i have encountered a few instances where others said
there was problems doing this on Panther. i have also
noticed that MAC OSX SERVER is recommended. what i
want to know, is it possible to do what i want to do
without the use of MAC SERVER? if so, am i missing
something in the process? is there anyway to implement
this when classic mode starts up with different users?
is this possible without creating a GUEST user?

PLEASE HELP. i am forever in your debt, ppl. THANKS.

jay
