This is a minor pet peeve of mine: AFS != AFP. People often assume
that I am talking about AFP when I am talking about AFS. People often
assume that I am talking about AFP when I am talking about AFS.

AFS has a little bit of this built-in; I'm not sure if the amount is
configurable or not.

This sounds like the best solution. Along with that, maybe send
emails warning about disk usage as it nears capacity.
