RE: Which ldap?

Hi Romeyn,

I did do something special to get LDAP working (with MS AD in
my case), and the first step was familiarizing myself with what
LDAP information was available to me, and how to access it. I
figured this out using an LDAP browser:

http://www.iid.edu/~gawojar/ldap/

There may be better browsers, this one is java based, free, and did
what I needed it to do.

If you have an account that has read access to the LDAP server,
or if it allows guest read access, then you may have everything you
need, and default LDAPv3 settings may work. In my case, I explored
the LDAP information available, gained an understanding of the
CN's, OU's, and DC's, and was able to configure it to work, and
reconfigure to accomodate some server schema changes made to ease
handling of group policies on Wintel clients.

In my case using MS AD, several things were not clear, and I
opted to statically map UID, GID, and home directory. That might
alarm some security sensitive people, but results are better than
OS 9 security and it works reliably.

Hope this helps,
Charles
