Re: Imaging frequent updates

Good Question!
I've got a plan, but it's not implemented yet:
Casper from JAMF Software will allow you to push difference packages out to computers, I've thought about taking diffs of the clean image and then after the update is installed.
Casper will also let you remotely activate the SoftwareUpdate command on your computers. Should be simple, but may increase your internet load immensely.
The one feature that I am really really looking forward to is the ability to queue up package distribution commands. This would allow you to send out a software install to all your iBooks, and they will install it the next time they come on line! They don't all have to be AWAKE at the moment you send the command. What an improvement. Now if we could only get CenturionTech's DriveShield to act the same, we actually be able to get some real work done around here. :-P (Driveshield erases all changes to an HD on reboot, and is disableable remotely, but won't queue up the command, so you have to wake up all your iBooks to disable them or enable them. Bummer - that totally defeats Casper's queue now doesn't it?)
Casper is available from www.jamfsoftware.com, and DriveShield from www.centuriontech.com
Thanks,

With software updates coming from Apple once a week or more, I am wondering how often people are updating their image files, and pushing the new images out to their lab/student machines. What approach do you use for updating the image?
