using Perl on Panther to connect to MS SQL database

We're working on a system to track user logins and logouts and determine utilization of labs from that. We have both PC and Mac labs, with the Mac labs running Panther. The database we have access to (and really have no choice but to use) is a Microsoft SQL Server database. We're using VBScript on the PC side of things at user login and logout to create a record within the db and I'm hoping to do the same with Perl (if possible) on my Panther machines.

Has anyone done this? Can you point me to a resource that might explain how or have sample scripts and such for it?
