Re: Remote Access Hardware for Apple/OSX

Sorry for the re-post but I'm falling short of ideas on this one!

I am currently using Apple Remote Access (ARA) on an early Mac. which
services 4 modems at 28K. Does anyone know of an apple solution (OSX
preferred) which would allow an upgrade to V90 K56flex. I would like to
keep the same functionality whereby calls are authenticated and activity
logged.

Hi Jed,
I'd just like to point out that you really shouldn't notice much improvement between a 28.8 modem and a 56k modem. The reason for this is that 56k modems can only "speak" 56k when connected directly to a digital line. When you call modem-to-modem, like you will be for your remote access, the connection maxes out at 33.6. This isn't really much of a gain from 28.8, so unless you also need to increase the number of incoming lines, I wouldn't invest much to try to increase the speed.

Just a thought,
Mike

(some ppl may point out that 56k modems also have a better compression algorithm than the 28.8, but overall, the MNP4 on the 28.8 will only be marginally slower than the 56k's algorithm)
