Hello,
It may not have worked because / needs to have a sticky bit. Correct permissions should be either:
chmod 1775 /
chmod 1755

Both should work fine, but it definitely comes with sticky bit on default install (and 1775 by default too)

Hi Juergen,

neither changing permissions to 775 nor 755 did the trick!

Still no loginprompt, still trying to get back into OS X!
