Thank you for your reply. No, it's not for sending spam. I'm faced with a
buy a build decision for our newsletter mailings. So what really is the
difference between sendmail and mail? If mail is a client, is sendmail its
own SMTP server as well?

Also, how would I call the command line mail shell like a function and
receive a response from it from Java, Cocoa, Perl, PHP, or AppleScript?
