Since that seems to be the only service you require- fine. MM uses afp-like capabilities to authenticate.

It's bad form to do this in a unix based OS. Many, many things will break (probably group membership, for one) It seems sort of useless, as well, since MM users can already log in with their long names.

If you ever want to use webdav, mail, ftp or probably some other things I'm not thinking of.


It gets better too. We have all the users home directories set to a Win 2k
box so users can get their docs logged in from the Macs or PC's.

How do you keep passwords in sync?

We're not
biased here ;-) Its been this way for 6 months like I said and the only
problem we have had is when I corrupted ALL the file privileges on the
server. Did a nidump, backed up the data I needed, formated it and reloaded
OSXS to current version and ran niload, copied files back and set share
points. Worked seamlessly.

Yes we telnet in to change passwords. Sudu passwd "Username" works great.

You /telnet/ ? Let me guess... you do this over airport... you should really check out what that looks like with tcpdump.

...not to mention that passwd only works with NI, and does not update keychain passwds...
