extract rsa1 private key from binary file?

This question for developers among us. I don't know a lot about binar file formats.

If an ssh private key is imbedded in a file (I can see the "SSH PRIVATE KEY FILE FORMAT 1.1" that heads the key, generally- as well as the root@host that tails is) is there any way to extract it?

I'm doing a security audit, and I think a developer is storing both the public key and private key in the same binary file. I haven't determined what the keypair is used for yet, but in general this is a bad thing, and I need to prove it (extract the provate key.. which might or might not be encrypted, itself).
