Thank you , Michael and Luke!!
For the excellent information.

The lab domain is purely proof of concept. I need to design a suitable
authentication infrastructure for a school system and am trying to work out
the proper design.

Desktops are OS 9 and MacManager, so all the intricacies of NetInfo would be
lost. I see the Central site (High School) hosting the root domain, as well
as a child domain.
Each remote school would have it's own domain server, which I would like to
have a copy of the root domain so that some people can login at any school
even when (not if :) the WAN goes down.

Since MacManager doesn't have any cloning or fault tolerance, I didn't see a
need for anything more complex - each site will have its own MM server
anyway and the Wan really is unreliable.

My background tends more towards the NT world, so I'm looking for PDC/BDC
type functionality. But really don't want one huge root domain that needs to
stay up to date over the WAN. So:

root domain
