Server going whacky

Help!

I have a G4/500 DP running the latest OS X Server (not 10.2) that has
started doing something whacky.

I'm not sure what the cause is, but part of the after-effect/symptom is
that incoming FTP connections fork off a new instance of inetd, but then
the connection is never handed off to wu-ftpd. I imagine because no new
processes can be started.

If I'm already Timbuktu'd or SSH into the box, that connection still
works, mostly. Within the shell, I can kill processes, but I can't launch
anything new like "ls" or start top again after quitting.

Pretty soon I get lots and lots of inetd processes.

Very frustrating. Power cycling is the only "cure".

Any ideas?

This is really killing me here.

Thanks
Brian
