Re: path names?

Directories (aka Folders) are usually indicated with a trailing
slash.

/// To quote from the man page for ls (when using the -F option)

man ls

...

-F Display a slash (/) immediately after each pathname that is a
directory, an asterisk (*) after each that is executable, an at
sign (@) after each symbolic link, a percent sign (%) after each
whiteout, an equal sign (=) after each socket, and a vertical bar
(|) after each that is a FIFO.

...

///

What is the difference between:
/path/name/here and /path/name/here/ ?

I have seen both used in online and printed documentation for OSX and I
can't determine if there is a difference and if there is, what exactly IS
the difference.

Can any of you unix gurus out there explain in terms a long time MacOS user
with minimal unix exposure such as myself can understand?
