Re: WebStar SSL -> Apache

I'm assuming you already tried Google, and it did not turn
up anything promising. It seems likely that asking the
fine folks who make WebStar is your best bet.

We tried to add a private key and certificate to a Java
Keystore once, it was incredibly difficult; and it seems
to have been engineered to be that way. Vendors do not
appear motivated to make reading or writing the private
key easy. There are several pages that we were able to
find using Google about how to do the Java Keystore work
so if there is nothing about Webstar private keys it's
probably worth the time you'd save to just buy a new cert
from Thawte.

Thawte is owned by VeriSign but has much cheaper certs.
Just about any well known vendor of certs will do however.
As long as your clients trust the public key(s) of the
certificate authority (CA) issuing the certificate you're
fine.

Don't forget to make sure it's the cheapest cert they sell.
There's no difference in the strength of the cryptography
that can be done with a so called "40 bit" certificate as
compared to a so called "128 bit" certificate.

Hi!

Would a verisign issued certificate for Webstar4 work with apache? Is there a way to convert a private key generated by WebStar4 to apache (openssl & mod_ssl) private key. I do have the actual csr generated by WebStar4 ssl tool as well if that would be any helpful.

By the way, I find this group very helpful.

thanks,
Ezra
