Windows clients and encrypted authentication

I recently installed OS X server 10.1 and during the install I enabled
authentication manager for Windows clients. After completing the install and
patches, I discovered that Windows users could not log on to the machine. The
same user accounts worked perfectly for Mac users.

Following instructions provided by an Apple Knowledgebase document, I disabled
the authentication manager. But Windows clients are still unable to log on.
When I looked at smb.conf, I found one configuration line that says "encrypt
passwords = YES". So I changed the setting to "NO" and saved the change. I
then reopened the file and verified that the change had been saved. But after
stopping Windows file sharing through the GUI and restarting it, this value is
changed back to "encrypt passwords = YES".

Can anyone tell me what changes this value back to "YES" and how can I stop
password encryption from being reenabled?

Bob
