Re: yay! Mail Service is working!

unfortunately, Ashley, i'll be taking down my web page with the shots on it -but not just yet so try the last 8-9 shots at http://thalia.shacknet.nu/gallery click on an image and advance through that way so you can see the comments.

i will, however, HAPPILY, for anyone who wants to write me off-list help out with this -it is easy once you know what's up. (if i can call this "knowing what's up" ;-) and i'll have shots to use then too, but i need my web space back tonight (EST) and also to stop bothering this list! hehe (a rash of double posts last night -SORRY!)

Hi,

Could you please provide screenshots for your solution (as you did, if I
remember correctly) to describe the initial problem?

That would be a great help for the rest of us trying to do the same.

Thanks,
Ashley.

thanks Peter (we're almost done), Tobias, and everyone else!

i have mail Services running on OS X Server 10.2.5, behind a small home
network: Cable modem, LinkSys router, Macs. using DynDNS.org.

i do NOT run DNS and i have what is called a "persistent" IP (dynamic,
but it doesn't change for 6 months USUALLY!)

the trick seemed to be to use my internal IP for everything, including
in my email program as POP and SMTP.
also, NOT, as Tobias said early on, to use the MX line at DynDNS, but
to use my own MX record -which afaik there is no way to turn off
anyway, for now i am using the "MX-List Only" selection in the Mail
Services admin GUI. i also have the internal IP in the Workgroup
Manager for the Users "Mail Server".

cool, any suggestion on turning on other features, from the Admin GUI,
that help me batten done as many hatches as i can (in this situation).

thanks.

ted
