Re: XServe is quiet

Yeah, we noticed the same thing. When the new Xserves are cool, they are very quiet. They can produce a racket, but not nearly as loud as the old Xserves if the internal temperature rises enough to kick the fans into high gear.

At the moment, the Fibre RAID array, the Dual Athlon MP box, the Sun Netra, and the various networking equipment in the room I'm in all have different frequencies and patterns of sound. Therefore, it's mostly additive - ugh. The Athlon rackmount is particularly annoying - and hot and temperamental (no, the temp is within spec).

I posted this to MM list but guess it is a topic here too. The new XServe is
unbelievably quiet. It is a real joy. Unfortunately mine is stacked with an
old one.
