As for mod_auth_ldap, you should use the Apple Auth module instead, as
it will consult whatever password method is requried to authenticate
the user, including going to ldap if that's what it needs to do.
Unless of course you have a situation where you need to do web based
authentication against an LDAP directory that it would be inappropriate
and/or not possible to set up in Directory Access on that web server.
Or even if you're in a situation where you have users with the same
username in both a local Open Directory and an external LDAP directory,
and you only want to authenticate against the external directory.
If you're authenticating against Open Directory though, you should use
Apple's module.
