I need to change the IPs for the private 'Xsan' network on all my
clients, is this easy?
Yes, although you will probably need to reenter the client
information for
each client into the Xsan Admin utility on your next access and may
run into
some DNS issues if you're running DNS on your private network,
which you are
not supposed to do (but I still see about 80% of the Xsan setups
configured
to do).
I do not run a DNS server. The private network is plugged in to a
gigabit switch that has no uplink connection to the campus network.
Do I need to use changeip at all?
If you are running an Open Directory master then yes. As a general
rule I
would use changeip any time you are changing the IP address of an OS X
Server.
One of my Xserve clients is an Open Directory master, others are
domain members of Active Directory.
Am I forced to destroy & recreate the SAN? [I am only testing things
at the moment ;-)]
Not at all. The volume data is completely separate.
Ok, nice :-)
But here is the thing about changing the Ips of your private Xsan
network.
Why? Do they overlap with an existing range? If not then I can't
imagine
why it would matter enough to bother changing the ip addresses at all.
The university is starting to use the 10.x.x.x space, the network
team would like me to use 192.168.x.x IPs
I just thought I'd pose the question - it wasn't a problem for me to
just 'tear the SAN apart', but it's nice to know for the future. I'll
get onto changing things tomorrow AM (GMT!)
Cheers...
