Don't forget you also need to stop the SAN volume, unmount it from the clients and then in Xsan Admin --> Setup --> Storage --> Click and edit the volume and check off the "Access Control Lists: Enable on this volume" check box.

Its on page 100 of the 1.4 admin guide found here:
http://images.apple.com/server/pdfs/Xsan_Admin_Guide_v1.4.pdf

Then you can start up your volume and mount your clients once the SAN has written the settings to the volume.
Do implement the KBASE script as pointed out below if you still have issues
