Hi. What is the proper procedure to get Outlook Express on a
Windows XP Pro PC to send? I get the following error message in
Outlook Express:
"The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was
rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was
'email@hidden'. Subject 'test', Account:
'wacondatrader.com', Server: 'wacondatrader.com', Protocol: SMTP,
Server Response: '554 <email@hidden>: Relay access denied',
Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 554, Error Number:
0x800CCC79"
wacondatrader.com is me, and email@hidden is an outside
email address I setup on my local ISP.
I am running the latest MacOS X Tiger server with the latest
updates. I have SMTP authentication set to PLAIN. There are no
issues with POP3 receiving. The same account works just fine from
Mail.app on my MacBook. I receive a similar error using Eudora for
Windows. However, Thunderbird for Windows works fine. Does current
versions of Windows XP apps, for the most part, require me to set
my Tiger server to a higher level of SMTP authentication?
On the server, set SMTP Authentication to 'Login' for Outlook
clients. For Mail.app you should be using CRAM-MD5 or Kerberos if you
have that enabled.
Also, you should be using the submission port 587 for client to
server authentication. To set this up, edit /etc/postfix/master.cf
and remove the comment '#' in front of the following string.
submission inet n - n - - smtpd
Then set your email clients to use port 587 for SMTP and open port
587 in your firewalls.
