gig e between xserve & win2003

i have a xserve set up with gig e set at gig full duplex.

i lose connection for brief time frames [drops and instantly comes back] with my win 2003 server.

the control panel on the windows box only shows auto or 100 half or 100 full. it says it is using gig but not if its full or half.

i suspect that it is coming up 1000half instead of 1000full.

does anybody have any clue how to debug the connection between the xserve and the win2003 box?

needless to say microsquash isn't very helpful.

my obvious option would be to set it to 100full and put up with slow but possibly more reliable.
