Pet Peeve: "lose" vs. "loose"

"Lose" (pronounced looz) is a verb and means "to be deprived of, no longer have" as in "to lose a connection", i.e., the connection was lost or dropped.

"Loose" (pronounced loos) is most frequently an adjective meaning "detached, not tied together or relaxed"; sometimes it is a verb meaning "to set free or release" - "the ropes were loosed".  You do not typically "loose" a connection, but if you do, it means you actively untied it or set it free.

Which is probably not what is meant when a server no longer can communicate with another server.
