Re: Server Computers

Hi Geron,

Something that I'm sure Dan will be chiming in on later, is that the mini is not rated for continuous use, like an Xserve, or other dedicated hardware.  I recall a post from awhile back where it was commented that even an old G3 Blue and White, with a PCI SATA card installed and a couple of high speed drives would be a better choice since with servers in the setup that you're suggesting throughput and access to the data are more important than the processing power of the server.  YMMV, but I will preemptively agree with Dan and say that you should consider other hardware for your setup.

Regards,

Rafael

I have a simple but stupid question.  We are trying to figure out a way to have our mail, dns, and web in our dmz zone.  What kind of processing power would we need to be able to do just these 3 functions.  Would a mini be able to handle this? What if we just had a dns and web server, would the mini be able to handle it with server software?
