I'm beginning to see that. I have a user (AFP network home) who gets
frequent beachballs of death. I was hoping to find a clue about the
cause in the AppleFileServiceAccess.log, but while I'm seeing -5006
errors, there's now way to know why. It's difficult to know which
app is doing the file operations, but they seem to be Apple Mail and
the .Mac syncing stuff. He's the only one using .Mac syncing, so I
was going to blame that.

There are logs in /Library/Logs/AppleFileService, and I'm

(I changed the IP address to 000.000.000.000 in this email). The
numeric codes at the end of the entry seem to mean something,

Genreally it's not the meaning of a specific Mac error code that is
of primary concern, but that you're getting one at all and what it
is you're doing that causes it that is of the greater importance.
The codes are designed for use by the programmer, not the user.
As for -5006 means "afpDenyConflict (-5006): Specified open/deny
modes conflict with current open modes" which as you see (and I
suggested) isn't going to help you very much at all.
You can find the codes in the MacErrors header file.
