I would fix the user accounts rather than "break" the mount record. To
avoid this in the future make sure you login to WGM using the FQDN.
Depending on how many users you have, WGM is a easy way to batch edit them
to the correct setting too.

I would really avoid this as it has the potential to mess up your server's
sense of self and without that all sorts of other stuff like OD, KDC,
mail, etc... may start to explode in rather impressive ways.
