There is no evil initiator. Your server is confused. Mail servers
behind NAT can be tricky...
I don't doubt it, but the one domain for which I accept mail,
desuetude.com, is listed in the local host aliases field of Admin ->
Mail -> Settings ->Advanced.
Ummm - obvious but - what about the domain mail.desuetude.com not just
desuetude.com.
your server does not believe it is the endpoint for
@mail.desuetude.com ... however your dns says @mail.desuetude.com
should get delivered here too.
(I realize that you don't have an MX record against mail.desuetude.com
-- but when there is no MX record mailservers fall back to using the A
record). So your problem is someone/something is erroneously sending
email to @mail.desuetude.com not @desuetude.com -- the quickest fix is
just to accept mail to @mail.desuetude.com as well (add a local host
alias for that too).
I had thought that adding desuetude.com would cover *.desuetude.com.
I'll add mail.desuetude.com and see what happens. Thanks.
