Shouldn't someone be on site by the time the UPS runs out of power if
there is a power outage? The system should contact you that it has
lost power and is in UPS mode with enough time for someone to show up
and find out what is wrong.
Last time we had a major power outage, it was in the middle of the day.
The outage lasted for 11 hours, and our UPS runs from one to two.
Perhaps if the system is mission critical you should get a gas generator.
After an hour or so, we shut down all the servers. Then all the staff
went home... except me and my staff, as we sat there wondering how we
were going to get the servers back on.
And this sounds like it is mission critical if employees need to use it to do
their jobs. The right solution isn't to figure out how to have the server power
itself back up automatically, but how to have the power never fail.
