Re: USING APPLE'S "MAIL" APPLICATION WITH MICROSOFT EXCHANGE SERVER

We run Exchange 5.5 without Active Directory.

We don't have any problem with Mail (10.3 & 10.4) connecting as an Exchange Client on Networked Home Directories. No problems using the LDAP address book from Exchange in our Address Books or Mail. We have about 150 Macs and 750 Windows workstations over a 4 county area.

A descent Systems Administrator is probably the key - but that's usually the case for any set up.

Sorry to resurrect this topic which I found in the archives from Jan
2006, but I have the same problem at my work place. Entourage will
connect to our Exchange Server, Mail.app will not and constantly
spits back a "bad password" message.

I've read the follow up posts, which pretty much said "Use Entourage"

Well, if you're in an Exchange environment, it's the most logical choice.

To use Mail, you have to enable IMAP/POP and SMTP on the Exchange server.
You may also have to enable some non-default authentication mechanisms
depending on how integrated with Active Directory your macs are.

Address Book requires LDAP, and you have to make sure you enter your user ID
correctly. There's no easy way to get iCal to talk to Exchange without third
party applications.

But if you're running Exchange, which means you're also running Active
Directory, you need to have a good IT staff, or, to be blunt, you're
screwed.
