Greetings -
Question: Anyone using an Aten 6000 to front a KVM - expecially with mixed
OS-en / hardware? How's it workin'?
Wanted to look for an opinion before droppin the $500.
Thanks very much in advance -
Been using several KVMs - IOGear 4 port USB, another brand 4port PS2, and
have 2 IOGear 8 port miniviews. Folks at IOGear at Mac World said the Aten
6000 works great as a front end to the miniviews - but the Aten website does
not list OSX as a supported OS.
I need to use a miniview to front a couple of Gateways, and 6 Macminis
running XP or OSX, depending on what week it is in my lab and would love to
do that over IP.
Yes, I know previous posts like Dell / Avocent - I don't have 2 large for a
Dell/Avocent - so the Aten6000 looks great - the Miniview new is $229, and I
got the other used on ebay for $80 with all cables - hey, we're an EDU.
BTW - FYI - my testing shows the Iogear 4 x USB ( Macmini form factor )
works fine with a variety of Macs and my Dell laptop - ** the mini seems to
take some seconds to come on, and the macbook pro needs to run detect
displays each time it is booted, the iMac 800 ( iLamp ) is flawless and
instantaneous - go figure.
The Miniview 8 X PS2 works fine with PCs as is, and when using the Airlink
PS2-USB adapter ($12 frys), Dell laptop and several mac versions work fine.
**Other noname PS2-USB adapter is useless on Mac OR PC.
