Error Code -35 when using AFP

Hi All,

Does anybody know how to fix the following error that I get when trying to mount a file server via AFP?

"The operation cannot be completed because one or more required items cannot be found. (Error Code -35)

I have one MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo computer that can't connect to file servers using AFP. This laptop can connect using SMB.
The problem occurs with all AFP servers.
The problem exists with all user accounts on the laptop. These are local accounts as opposed to managed accounts.
The problem is not specific to 10.4.8 or Core2Duo MBPro's since another Core2Duo MBPro can connect using AFP to the same servers.

When I try to mount from the command line I get a "segmentation fault" error.
/sbin/mount_afp afp://myusername:email@hidden/buck buck
mount_afp: the mount flags are 0000 the altflags are 0020
Segmentation fault

Other people have reported this same error in Apple's Discussion forums
One such thread is this: <http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=724126&#724126>

The thread suggest deleting this: "Trashing the hidden .GlobalPreferences in both /Library/Preferences and ~/Library/Preferences clears the issue up on a stand-alone workstation. On machines being managed though it appears to pull it from the server."  I tried this but it didn't help.

I also moved the entire /Library/Preferences folder, then restarted, then reactivated my built-in ethernet port but the problem persisted.

Other suggested fixes are deleting various pref files in the User's ~/Library/Preferences This doesn't make sense in my case since the error transcends user accounts.

I can ping the server and port scan tells me that port 548 is open. I repaired permissions and ran maintenance scripts
since I was running out of logical idea.

I looked up this error code in MacHelpMat and found this non-helpful information:   nsvErr   = -35,  /*no such volume*/

The CrashReporter Log for afp_mount lists the following information that didn't shed any light for me either.

Anybody have any other suggestions or solutions?  Thanks for your help. --Tim
