What a wacky morning.
Starting late last night (of course) I begin getting the email warnings from
my main Xserve (Dual 2.3 G5, 10.3.9 Unlimited) with the info that the System
Controller Blower had failed (over 14K RPM was the last reading before
failure message). By the time I got here, the message had been repeated
umpteen times (official IT number). Still running though.
After talking with Apple tech, we reset the PMU and have been monitoring
ever since.
So here's my question -
this server constantly shows the blower vacillating between 8650 and 10050,
all within Normal if you believe the Admin Monitor readout. But my backup
Xserve (Dual 2.0 G5, same OS) constantly reads between 4900 and 6000. Any
reason for this huge fan discrepancy? Any ideas where to find the actual
operating norms for servers like this?
Very unsettling.
Thanks for your bandwidth and knowledge.
