Now, it appears that ACLs have been activated on various sub- directories of the mail store but not to any of the mail files themselves and of course I don't know how that happened. The other thing is that although ACL have been activated, no permissions appear to have been applied.

Combing through the man page for chmod I'm not clear on how to de- activate ACLs or even if that is at all possible once they been activated.

Does anybody know for sure?

ACLs are enabled on a per-volume basis, so it appears - somewhere along the way - you enabled ACLs for the volume with your mailstore - by default, the OS/system/boot volume itself.


You can do so via Workgroup Manager (select the volume in question in Sharing), or:

man fsaclctl
