Applying updates to known bad OSen is a fools journey.

Before updating OSen you should assure that everything is well and
that you have a known good backup and checks and repaired the
filesystem and permissions.

I agree. This is a server of a client who has only now asked me about it, hence the problem.

Roll back your boot volume to the last known instance when this
worked. See if that fixes the problem

Since the client just punches buttons to run updates as soon as they are available, that's not possible in this case.

Yes, you've likely had this problem since 10.4.6 when OS X Server,
after years fo telling you to have perfect DNS finally got serious
about it. Your system is misconfigured. Fix this.

(You can see our TechNote at http://www.iwiring.net/)

Will take a look and hope that it can be repaired/resolved without drastic measures.

That's just your preferences. More likely you have a bad file which
is part of servermgrd, perhaps (guessing wildly) one of these:
/private/var/servermgrd/servermgr_print.lock
/usr/share/servermgrd/bundles/servermgr_print.bundle
/usr/share/servermgrd/bundles/servermgr_print.bundle/Contents
/usr/share/servermgrd/bundles/servermgr_print.bundle/Contents/Info.plist
/usr/share/servermgrd/bundles/servermgr_print.bundle/Contents/MacOS
/usr/share/servermgrd/bundles/servermgr_print.bundle/Contents/MacOS/servermgr_print
/usr/share/servermgrd/bundles/servermgr_print.bundle/Contents/version.plist
/usr/share/servermgrd/cgi-bin/servermgr_print
/usr/share/servermgrd/html/servermgr_print.html

I'll take a look in there as well, thanks!

And, Dan, thanks for not abusing me, but being direct and to the point.
