LDAP Setup & Testing Advice

First of all thanks for any help with the RAID I\O issue that I sent out yesterday. Your responses are greatly appreciated. We repaired the volume and we are running r/w tests on it now to see if we can diagnose whether the journaling error was due to hardware issues or not. There was only one minor problem found in the repair. Many people recommended SoftRaid as an alternative to Apple's software, however, we feel that the error is probably hardware-related at this point.

LDAP

Anyways, I wanted to ask if anyone had some ideas about what would be the best way to test an Open Directory setup in an already established environment. I was thinking virtual machines with different users and groups. Any advice, stories of problems you encountered, or warnings would be appreciated.

You see, we are planning on implementing LDAP on our network to help smooth out some permissions issues that keep popping up and to eliminate multiple users by the same name - using groups to assign roles instead of setting the permissions folder by folder for user/ owner. Lots of permissions mapping problems happen when a user has rights assigned locally and is mounting the drive as a different user - copying files over and then trying to access them from someone else's computer.

We have an almost completely Apple network, with a few windows machines running. A render farm. 3 OS X Servers and 3 XRAID systems.

Thanks!
