Problem booting from SW RAID 1

Most of our servers boot from a mirror so getting this setup is nothing new, but I'm in the process of repurposing one of our G5 xServes and it refuses to boot from the mirror.  It will boot fine from an external or from the third drive, but not the mirror.  This is only the second time installing one of our servers with 10.4.7 Universal so I'm wondering if that might be part of the problem.  The only successful move to the univ. version was also on a mirror but it was on an Apple RAID Version 1.  With the current xServe I had to create the RAID so it is v.2.

I've installed from the CD and via a restore of an image (both 10.4.7 Univ) and the server will always look for a different device to boot from even after choosing the mirror in the Startup Disk control panel.

Has anyone else experienced these problems or have any other tips?
