The only reason I know it's PasswordService is that I happened to have a shell open one time and was able to do some investigation. But I had to quickly power cycle (sudo wasn't working obviously) since customer was screaming for machine to come back.

Don't you wish you had a tty on your serial console?

Oh yes, that would be nice. But the co-location provider doesn't offer remote console service and the customer would balk at the cost. Nor would the customer be happy with the 3 hour delay for me to get to the data centre so I could get local console access.

So I continue to settle for a power cycle every couple of months when the problem occurs.
