Thanks Axel, that was some good answer. I did realise so far that
UUID were involved (as the code was also revealing). I am not sure
Apple really wanted this to be the case as it may cause confusion
(without increasing security) and does introduce some inconsistency,
but the careful administrator will know it.

But do your know how to force an ACE (you are right!) to refer to a
group instead of a user by the same name? Perhaps by specifying the
UUID itself?
May I also add that the main problem with ACE/ACL, whatever, that is
the crash in rsync when these are associated with resource fork
files, is resolved. The same for the UNIX permission problem with
resource fork files.
