I usually refer to this as "file system metadata," which basically includes the information you'd find in the catalog and attributes files of an HFS+ volume. I contrast that with "file metadata," which I take to mean things like EXIF and ID3 information. The term "metadata" can mean a lot of things. The prefix "meta" simply means self-referential.
