Windows client permissions/ACL issue

Hi all

I¹ve a Windows permissions issue as follows (OS X Server 10.4.9, Xserve G5):

- the top level of the share point has several folders;
- the share point itself is set to Read Only for all members of the group;
- all the top level folders have ACLs such that group members have r+/w+
privileges from the second level down (ACLs inherited for new folders).

This combination of permissions/ACLs gives me:

- both Windows and Mac users cannot delete existing top level directories or
create new ones;
- Mac users cannot move the top level folders (if they drag one of them into
another then it starts a copy routine (i.e. the original top level folder
stays where it was and a duplicate is created in the destination folder);
BUT
- even with those permissions and ACLs, the Windows (XP) users can still
just move one top level folder into another (the finder doesn't copy it -
the whole folder is moved to within the other top level directory and shifts
down to the next level).

Then, of course, the users can't move it back to where it belongs because
they don't have write privileges to the top level of the share point..

Is this some subtlety of ACLs in Windows v OS X? Any tips on things to
check or tweaks to ACLs to prevent this behaviour?

Thanks!

Garth
