And if you run AppleFileServer at the command line with the -d option
what happens?

Because it doesn't log there.

I have also been experiencing these errors an a regular basis.  The users currently logged in are fine, but any new connections receive the "AFP sytem error..." message.

I see no error logs in the /Library/Logs/AppleFileService directory.

Is there a workaround for this issue?
