kernel task

I have a new MacPro with Server 10.4.10 on it, it came with 10.4.9 and I updated to the latest. kernel_task in Activity monitor shows Real Memory used as 1.3G I use this computer very little as a server, mostly as a desktop. I open a couple programs and it starts paging like crazy, so looked at Activity monitor and see what I mentioned above.

I have looked at a couple other servers I have here, a G4 and a G5 and also my MacBook Pro but have never seen memory usage by kernel_task above 200MB, what is going on, do I need to reinstall?

Thanks,
