Apple doesn't have an implementation of SMB. OS X includes SAMBA.

Yes, I know that, thanks. I'd never even considered the impact a misattribution like that makes. *cringes*

It's of misattributing blame to Apple. If you have a problem with SAMBA it's FOSS and you're welcome to contribute to the solution rather than complain about a problem. It's also important b/c SAMBA is common and widely used, so it changes the scope of any problem(s) in that it's not just Apple affected but Linux, *nix, and many other OSen effected. You're likely to see the same issues elsewhere too.
