ALL: So, is there anyone out there that can help on the original
topic of this thread? Any ideas about how to work out what might
be happening? Any ideas on how to log it, spot it, track it, trace
it, fix it? Anything !!!

With all reasonable probability...
You have an network communications issue. It can cause hangs and
eventually it can stall so badly that OD can't authenticate or
authorize anything b/c it can't communicate and it waits forever for
an event that it can't receive.
How this manifests particularly on your system is probably different
than it is on others.
Fix your networking issues and your problem will resolve itself.
I know that doesn't help you fix your specific problem but it's
really something that takes specific troubleshooting. Hearing this
most people generally get bent out of shape with the messenger or
whine about "bugs", the former of which is unappreciated and the
latter misunderstands the responsible party for the problem, but
seldom do they want to hear it.
