Re: AD/OD : Migration from an existing AD to OD

We would like to remove all our Windows server.
We don't want to pay the CAL for the PDC which cost a lot for us.

We made some tests and we saw that OD can replace AD to manage users.

Regarding our file servers, datas will be moved to a new SAN ( based on macs ) but later.

We just want :
1) to copy to users/groups from AD to OD ( How ? export script ? import script ? )
2) take the ACL credentials to allow users to acces to the old servers ( using OD )

Rgs

Could you please explain me what's the "golden triangle" ?

What is your reasoning for wanting to switch from AD to OD? Being that you have more Windows clients than Mac clients, it seems rather odd to want to switch. I’d use a golden triangle, like it seems you have setup already, so you can auth to AD and still get at your OSX based servers.

Basically, what I am saying is why reinvent the wheel when you already have a perfectly good one working?

Hi,

1. Yes, we would like to stop using Windows
2. Both, but mainly Windows. The OS X server i currently connected to the AD for credentials
3. They will still be Windows clients ( 95% ) and some Mac clients ( 5% ). Actually Windows clients can use OS X file servers using AD

A couple of questions:

1.  Are you moving your entire AD to OD?
2.  Are your file servers currently Windows or OS X?
3.  Are all of your client computers going to be OS X?
